Wolfe Tones retained the Victorian League Title in an exciting Final at Gaelic Park. In difficult heavy and windy conditions, both teams struggled to hit their mark. The scores were just 2 points  each at the main break, with Sinn Fein failing to make the most of their wind advantage. Sinn Fein looked to be in command in the second half notching up a 3 point advantage, but the Tones fired back with 4 unanswered points to take the lead with just a minute on the clock. In a pulsating final minute, Sinn Fein got the equalizer and were pushing for the winner when the full-time whistle sounded. The sides were locked at 6 points each at full time.

In the 1st half of extra time the Tones notched up 4 unsnswered points an looked to be in control when Sinn Fein scored a goal in the dying seconds of the 1/2. Almost from the restart Sinn Fein were awarded a penalty which they duely converted to take a 2 point lead.  Wolfe Tones responded however, again scoring 4 points in succession to take out the match.

Ulster retained the 2010 Railway Cup to make it 3 in a Row. Pitted against a resillient Connaght outfit, Ulsters depth on the interchange proved the difference between the 2 teams.

Ulsters Nial Reel won the Player of the Tournament.

Wolfe Tones win 2009 League


Wolfe Tones defeated Padraig Pearses in the 2009 League Final. With a final score of 0-11 to 0-08, the Tones had 3 points to spare when the ref called it a day. Pearses had a 2 point lead at half time (0-04 to 0-02) with a slight breeze in their favour. They extended this lead to 3 points on resumption but this was pegged back by a resilient Wolfe Tones outfit with the wind at their back. Pearses however extended their lead to 2 points but were again pegged back with 5 minutes to go. The Tones finished the stronger and tagged on the final 3 points of the game.

Wolfe Tones retain 2009 Championship


Wolfe Tones defeated old foes Sinn Fein in the 2009 Championship final. With a final scoreline of 12 points to 7, it was a gutsy performance. The game was played in typical derby fashion with some good football played by both sides. In the end the Tones made the most of their scoring opportunities to gain reverge for last seasons league defeat to the Sinn Fein side.

Ulster win 2009 Railway Cup


Ulster defeated Leinster in the final of the 2009 Railway Cup. Ulster 0-14 Leinster 3-03. On a warm and windy Gaelic Park, a large crowd gathered to witness the first Gaelic Games of the 2009 Season.
In the first semi-final, favorites Connaght rued their many missed chances in front of goal, going down to Leinster with the scoreline Connaght 0-10 Leinster 1-09. The second semi was also a close one with
favorites Ulster getting past a deplated Munster with a 2 point margin. A late scoring flurry of 1-03 got them through with the scoreline of Ulster 1-08 Munster 0-09.

 

In the Hurling challenge, the Ulster/Munster combination got the better of Connaght/Leinster whilst in the ladies challenge, Ireland got the better of Australia.

In the Railway Cup final, Ulster were the dominant team throughout the game, stringing together a series of points. They could not however break clear of a resilient Leinster side. Leinster kept in touch through a number of well taken goal chances. In the end Ulster held out for the 2 point win.

June 1 : Wolfe Tones 1-18 Padriag Pearses 0-03

Wolfe Tones proved far too strong for rivals Pardaig Pearses to retain the Victorian 2008 Football Championship. In damp conditions the Tones took the initiative from the beginning and never let up.

The Tones produced a powerful performance despite this being their 3rd outing in 8 days due to an objection.

West Cork man Mark Cronin was awarded Man of the Match with a staggering 1-13 to his name. This tally is a record for a Championship final and surpasses that of another Wolfe Tones man of the past, Mick O’Keefe from Dublin.

Mar 30 : Wolfe Tones 0-11 McAnallens 0-07

Wolfe Tones created history winning the the Central Coast (NSW) San Remo Tournament at their 1st Attempt. Match Report and Photos will be coming shortly. It was a fantastic effort to have the depth in numbers to pull off such a task and field 2 teams on the same day in different states.

Mar 30 : Wolfe Tones 3-13 St Kevins 0-03

Wolfe Tones kept their 100% winning streak alive with a comprehensive win over St Kevins on National Day 2008. What made this an extra special effort was the fact that another Wolfe Tones team was entered in a tournament in New South Wales.

Mar 2 : Wolfe Tones 10-06 Garryowen 0-09

Continuing on from their form in the 1st round, Wolfe Tones disposed of a depleted Garrowen outfit with an overpowering display. Garryowen simplay had no answer for the Wolfe Tones and were down 3-04 to 0-05 at half time.

Feb 24 : Wolfe Tones 2-12 Pearses 1-7

The first game of the 2008 season got of to a flying start for the Tones defeating Padraig Pearses in Gaelic Park. A hotly contested game as always the Pearses put it up to the Tones in the first half with only a point in at halftime John Gallagher at full back and Ciaran Feely at full forward doing some hard work to keep the Tones in it. In the second half a well drilled Wolfe Tones team showed there superior fitness thanks to the new captain Ciaran Lavelle who has really pushed players all the way in pre-season training. In the last fifteens mins the Tones pulled away getting that extra space to add on some extra scores.

Feb 3 : Ulster 2-15 Leinster 2-08

Ulster defeated Leinster in the 2008 Railway cup with a comfortable 7 point margin. Earlier in the Day Leinster dispatched Munster in a one sided affair whilst Ulster defeated defending champions Connacht, again in a one sided affair.
