The Ladies – The most recently formed ladies club

In late 2016 a group of 40 plus women came together to express their interest at playing ladies football. This group of friends had the vision of playing together and so no current club was an option. Club president Ciaran Mohan and secretary John Vesey were made aware of this interest and with zero hesitation set the ball in motion, opening every door possible and securing everything needed to help build the club and create the first Wolfe Tones Melbourne Ladies Team.

2017. With great excitement and under the management of Paddy Grey, Finchy, Derek Fallon and Barry Garvin the women’s team started training. Unfortunately, despite all the hard work our first year got off to a rocky start. How- ever, every single woman enjoyed that year including our first trip to Sydney. With No silver wear won we moved onto the next season.

2018. With the addition of new players and new managers, Aodhain Kiernan and Stephen Lynch. The women worked hard, while still playing harder, and it finally all came to- gether with the Tones ladies creating their own history taking out the Championship after only 2 years in the competition, beating Padraig Pearses in the final.

To the year 2019, it has been our best yet. Again, with the addition of new players we were also able to start an Intermediate Women’s team. With the help of Aodhain, Paddy McGovern, Kevin Rogers and Johnny Cas- sidy, we started the year well with our first piece of silver wear coming in the form of the Garry Owens 9s Trophy. The year continued steadily but unfortunately the league cup wasn’t to be ours. We dug deep and made sure to bring home the Senior Ladies Championship cup for the second year in row.

We continue to look forward to each coming season welcoming new players and following in the footsteps of the long -standing winning Men’s team that has paved the way for our successes to come.
